Prices for Chinese cabbage in Ukraine have fallen to the level of production costs due to the freezing crisis.
Serhii Hedz, head of a department of Syngenta, writes about this in his article on AgroTimes in the Plantator magazine, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
According to Hedz, in 2025, Ukrainian farmers sold Chinese cabbage for UAH 10-12 per kilogram, which is significantly less than before the full-scale invasion and allows farmers to make only minimal profits.
The report says that the decline in demand for Chinese cabbage is due to a reduction in processing capacity, as some of the facilities remained in the occupied territories, while others were damaged.
At the same time, the demand for Ukrainian frozen products abroad remains, which opens up opportunities for the industry to recover.
The area under Chinese cabbage has now stabilized, but in the new season it may slightly decrease.
As of March 27, the cost of Chinese cabbage in supermarkets is UAH 27.90-38.50 per kilogram.
As the Ukrainian News agency previously reported, in early January, after a long decline in Ukraine, white cabbage started to rise in price.
