A possible US ground operation to seize Iran's Kharg Island could happen quickly, but poses a serious threat to the US military and risks only prolonging the war. Reuters reports this with reference to analysts and sources.

According to the agency, Donald Trump has been weighing for a long time whether to use ground forces to seize Iran's strategic oil hub. This is Kharg Island - a key point for the export of Iranian oil.

Experts believe that the US military is able to quickly establish control over the island, but this does not guarantee the end of the conflict.

"The capture and occupation of Kharg Island is more likely to expand and prolong the war than bring any decisive victory," analysts note.

Among the main risks are constant attacks from Iran, including missile strikes and the use of drones, including FPV drones, which have already proven their effectiveness in modern wars.

In addition, according to military estimates, even in the event of a quick capture of the island, American forces will remain vulnerable and will require large-scale logistical support and additional protection.

Former commander of the US Central Command Joseph Votel also expressed doubts about the feasibility of such an operation, noting that it would not provide a significant tactical advantage, despite the fact that it is technically possible to implement it.

As a reminder, the American television channel CNN reported, citing officials familiar with the intelligence reports, that in recent weeks Iran has been actively strengthening the island of Kharg, which is believed to be the main target of a US ground operation.
