On March 27, one of the most influential and scandalous directors of our time - Quentin Tarantino - celebrates his birthday. The man who turned the idea of cinema upside down, mixed genres, legalized ultraviolence as art and forced viewers to quote criminal dialogues as if they were poetry.
His style is a separate cultural code: long conversations "about nothing" that suddenly explode with blood, non-linear plots and endless homages to old cinema. But behind this recognition is not only talent, but also dozens of scandals, disputes and provocations.
From video store to the Oscars
Tarantino is one of the few directors who made himself. Without film schools or academies, he worked in a video store, where he watched thousands of films and formed his unique taste. Without a specialized education, without the "right" connections and without starting chances, he literally burst into cinema with "Mad Dogs" - a film that looked as if it had been shot according to rules that did not yet exist.
And in just two years, "Pulp Fiction" turned him into a living legend: a non-linear plot, iconic dialogues and scenes that are still analyzed frame by frame.

After that, there were no less iconic:
- Mad Dogs
- Kill Bill
- Inglourious Basterds
- Django Unchained
His films regularly receive awards, but most importantly - they shape generations of directors and screenwriters. He is a winner of two Oscars for screenplay and is considered one of the most influential directors of modern cinema.

Scandals that he cannot do without:
Tarantino is not just a director, but a constant participant in loud discussions.
Violence in films
He has been repeatedly accused of romanticizing cruelty. The director himself answers simply: "Violence is part of cinema, and I love it as a viewer."
Story with Harvey Weinstein
Tarantino collaborated with Harvey Weinstein, who was later accused of sexual crimes, for many years. Later, the director admitted that he knew about some of his behavior and regrets not intervening.

Scandalous scenes on set
While working on "Kill Bill," actress Uma Thurman had an accident during a stunt, which caused a long-standing conflict between her and the director.
Strange facts that make him even more interesting
- Tarantino loves... feet. Even those who don't want to, notice this in his films
- He promised to make only 10 films and leave big cinema
- His dialogues are often longer than the action scenes - and it works
- He collects old vinyl records and selects music for his films himself
- As a child, his mother allowed him to watch adult films - this greatly influenced his style
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Tarantino explained why he refused to make "The Movie Critic" and is not making a sequel to "Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood."
