Iran has allowed the passage of ships that are not involved in aggression against the country through the Strait of Hormuz, subject to coordination with Tehran.
This is reported in the news story by Reuters with reference to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Iranian side clarified that the passage is possible only for ships that adhere to the agreed safety rules. At the same time, Tehran has banned the passage of ships and assets of the United States, Israel and other states that it considers to be participants in hostile actions.
Iran emphasized the use of "necessary and proportionate measures" to prevent the use of the strait for operations against the country.
Against the background of tensions and hostilities between the United States, Israel and Iran, transportation through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply decreased. This route provides about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied gas supplies, which is why the restrictions have already affected energy markets.
The first vessel to take advantage of the new rules was the Panamanian-flagged cargo ship Newvoyager, owned by the Chinese company, which paid Iran for passage.
Recall that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is insisting that US President Donald Trump continue the war against Iran, claiming that the US-Israeli operation is a "historic opportunity" to transform the Middle East.
