About 1,500 ships of the russian "shadow fleet" currently allow the Kremlin to circumvent international sanctions and replenish the military budget. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The income from these voyages forms up to 40% of the russian federal budget, ensuring the production of weapons and payments to the occupation forces. Despite the fact that more than 610 tankers have already fallen under restrictions, a significant part of the fleet continues to sail in world waters.

As the department emphasizes, blocking this channel is a strategic task for Ukraine: "The income from these voyages forms up to 40% of the russian federal budget, ensuring the production of Kalibr missiles, Shahed drones and payments to the occupation forces, therefore blocking this channel is a priority of Ukraine's War Plan."

Kyiv, together with its partners, is currently working on a strategy to physically block such vessels at sea with the subsequent confiscation of oil. In addition to financing aggression, outdated tankers, due to their technical condition, pose a direct environmental threat to coastal countries. The increased sanctions pressure is aimed at stopping the flow of petrodollars that russia is turning into weapons against peaceful Ukrainian cities.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has received information about the Kremlin's plans to increase the number of tankers transporting oil under the flag of the aggressor country, the russian federation. This decision is dictated by the increasingly frequent precedents of detentions of tankers of the russian "shadow fleet" by European countries and the United States of America.
