According to calculations by scientists from the Institute of Agrarian Economics, a traditional set of products for the Easter table for a family of 4 people will cost approximately UAH 1,903.19 this year, which is 14.4% more expensive than last year, when the same set of products cost UAH 1,663.26.
This is stated in a message from the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The calculation of the cost of the Easter basket in 2026 was made by scientists from the Institute of Agrarian Economics based on data from the Ministry of Finance, which conducts daily monitoring of prices for primary food products in grocery supermarkets Auchan, Fozzy, Furshet, Megamarket, Metro, Novus, Varus as of March 20, 2026.
According to scientists' calculations, in April 2026, traditional Easter cake, eggs, homemade sausage, bacon, lard, butter, soft and hard cheeses, horseradish, and salt will cost about UAH 1,903.19 for a family of 4, which is 14.4% more expensive than last year, when the same set of products cost UAH 1,663.26.
According to Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yurii Lupenko, the cost of the main component of the Easter basket - homemade Easter cake according to the traditional recipe (700 g of flour, 6 eggs, 150 g of butter, 300 g of milk, 400 g of sugar, 40 g of yeast, 200 g of raisins) will be UAH 266.89 per 1 kg, which is 14.6% higher than the cost of last year's Easter cake (UAH 232.96).
Such an increase in the price of the symbol of Easter is due to a significant increase in prices for all food items: eggs (+19.3%), butter (+6.8%), milk (+49.6%), flour (+38.6%), yeast (+12.8%) and raisins (14.1%).
The only product that has experienced a decrease in price compared to last year is sugar (-18%).
In stores and supermarkets, ready-made Easter cakes will cost more, because their price includes the cost of delivery, trade margins, decoration of pastries, etc.
The most expensive components of the Easter basket traditionally remain meat products: homemade sausage (0.5 kg) – UAH 287.5 (UAH 550-600 per 1 kg), bacon (0.5 kg) – UAH 353 (UAH 687-725 per 1 kg).
The cost of lard has remained practically at the same level as last year - 0.5 kg will cost up to UAH 123 at the rate of UAH 220-270 per 1 kg.
Compared to 2025, the cost of bacon has increased by 16.5%, homemade sausage - by 35.3%, and bacon - by 0.4%.
Among dairy products, the most expensive will be hard cheese (0.5 kg) – UAH 298 (UAH 539-650 per 1 kg), butter (0.5 kg) – UAH 292 (UAH 110-120 per 200 g pack) and soft cheese (0.5 kg), which will cost UAH 157.5 (UAH 300-330 per 1 kg).
Compared to 2025, the cost of hard cheese increased by 3.7%, soft cheese - by 31.3%, butter - by 3.1%.
The price of horseradish (200 g) will be UAH 31 (UAH 28-34) and will depend on the manufacturer and flavor ingredients, the cost of salt (150-200 g) – UAH 6.72 is also symbolic.
If the traditional Easter basket is supplemented with other, optional ingredients, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, apples, red wine (cahors), its cost will increase to UAH 2,347.94.
This is 16.8% higher than the cost of last year's basket of the same composition in UAH 2,009.76, Yurii Lupenko noted.
Compared to the same period in 2025, vegetable prices have increased significantly.
If last year greenhouse tomatoes (0.5 kg) cost up to UAH 78 (UAH 126-189 per 1 kg), then in this spring season their price is UAH 187-278 per kilogram.
The price of greenhouse cucumbers is currently UAH 175-275 per kilogram, which is almost 38.5% higher than last year's figures.
The price of apples depends on the variety and is on average UAH 25 per 0.5 kg (UAH 45-55 per 1 kg), which is 17.4% more expensive than last year.
For a bottle of church wine "Cahors" you will have to pay an average of UAH 189 (UAH 160-220 per bottle).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Easter in Ukraine is a public holiday dedicated to the resurrection of Christ, which is officially celebrated in Ukraine according to the New Julian calendar.
