The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) counterintelligence has detained another agent of russian military intelligence (GRU) in Rivne. He was a former employee of a plant in the Donetsk Region, recruited by the enemy, who arrived in the western region of Ukraine to correct russian air attacks. This is said in the SSU report.
According to the SSU, the attacker came to the attention of the russian secret service when he was looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels after his release.
Soon after, the agent received a task from a supervisor from the aggressor country of russia to go to the Rivne Region to collect the coordinates of potential "targets."
The russian GRU paid special attention to the enterprises of the defense industry of Ukraine and the points of concentration of Ukrainian troops.
After arriving in the regional center, the agent checked into a local hotel. Every time he received a briefing from a russian special service officer, he used a taxi for reconnaissance missions.
During the trips, the offender photographed objects that, in his opinion, could be involved in the fulfillment of defense orders or used for military bases.
In particular, the enemy agent tried to identify the locations of mobile fire groups, radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which protect the airspace of the western region of Ukraine.
"SSU officers documented the agent's crimes and detained him red-handed when he was recording the facade of the enterprise with a phone camera. During the detention, a smartphone with the coordinates of Ukrainian objects on Google maps, which he was going to pass to the Russian GRU, was seized from him," the special service said.
Security Service investigators served the offender a notice of suspicion of high treason (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The offender is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
