In the French city of Arcis-sur-Aube, 75-year-old centrist Charles Hittler won 40.59% of the vote and won the second round of municipal elections, while independent candidate Antoine Renault-Zielinski received 27.92% and came third.

This is reported by BFMTV, France Info and the BBC.

Antoine Renault-Zielinski, who is 28 years old and is close to the nationalist and Eurosceptic party "Patriots", did not make it to the final of the race.

Before the first round, the names of the candidates were actively discussed on the Internet due to their similarity to the names of Adolf Hitler and Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Renault-Zielinski himself said that he did not expect such a resonance. He explained that his double surname comes from his father, Renault, and his mother, Zielinski, who is of Polish origin.

At the same time, in key cities in France, the majority of votes were received by left-wing political forces and their allies.

In particular, in Paris, socialist Emmanuel Grégoire won about 51% of the vote and was ahead of Rachida Dati, who left the post of Minister of Culture before the elections.

Left-wing candidates also won in Marseille, Lyon, and Lille. Representatives of the far-left and far-right political forces recorded separate successes in the elections.

As we will recall, both Hittler and Zielinski previously stated that they did not notice the irony of the situation until social media users pointed it out.
