Elections without winner: struggle for coalition begins in Slovenia

No political force was able to win a clear victory in the parliamentary elections in Slovenia, so the country faces difficult negotiations on forming a government.

According to preliminary results, the liberal "Movement for Freedom" of Prime Minister Robert Golob received 28.62% of the vote and can count on 29 seats in parliament. The Slovenian Democratic Party led by Janez Janša showed almost the same result - 27.95% and 28 seats.

This situation means that none of the leading parties has enough support to form a government on its own. Therefore, political forces will have to look for allies and negotiate a coalition.

Seven more parties that have overcome the 5% barrier are also entering parliament. In particular, "New Slovenia" will receive 9 seats, the Social Democrats and the Left-Green bloc - 6 each, and two other political forces - 5 mandates each.

As a result, the blocs around Golob can count on approximately 40 MPs, while the forces oriented towards Janša - about 43. This further complicates the process of creating a stable majority.

On the eve of the elections, local media also reported on a possible information campaign against Golob's party, in which the Israeli company Black Cube could allegedly be involved.

As a reminder, large-scale protests against Orbán were held in Hungary.
