Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Iran's attempts to restrict shipping in the Strait of Hormuz are reminiscent of russia's actions in the Black Sea.
According to him, in 2022, moscow also blocked maritime trade, trying to destroy Ukraine's economy and achieve its military goals
Sybiha, in a post on X noted that Ukraine was then able to restore freedom of navigation on its own.
He also emphasized that Kyiv supports international efforts to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. The Foreign Minister added that terror must be responded to with decisive actions
"This is another area in which Ukraine has unique experience, knowledge and technological advantages that no other country has. We support all international efforts to restore freedom of navigation in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz," the minister said.
He noted that Ukraine remains committed to adhering to the basic principles of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and stands for the speedy stabilization of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"As a country that has suffered from such terror, we demand compliance with the basic principles of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. In addition, it is in Ukraine's immediate interest to stabilize global markets as soon as possible. Our position is clear: terror must be countered with decisive actions," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
