Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio said his country has refused to discuss with the United States the issue of a change of power, in particular the presidential term of Miguel Diaz-Canel.

According to Reuters, Fernandez de Cossio will inform about this during a press conference with journalists.

"Cuba's political system is non-negotiable, and, of course, neither the President nor the position of any official is subject to discussion with the United States," the politician emphasized.

Earlier, information was circulating that the Trump administration was allegedly considering an economic agreement with Havana, which could provide for the easing of sanctions in exchange for a change of President.

Cuba, in turn, as the Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, confirmed that some negotiations with the United States are indeed underway.

According to de Cossio, the parties could discuss a number of complex but mutually important topics, including trade and financial claims.

"These are very complex issues... they require dialogue and negotiations," the official said.
