A special mission of the European Union has arrived in Ukraine to assess the technical condition of the Druzhba pipeline, which was damaged by russian attacks. This is reported by Reuters.
Foreign experts are to help restore the transit infrastructure that supplies oil to Hungary and Slovakia. Ukraine has officially accepted Brussels' offer of financial and technical support after Budapest accused it of deliberately delaying repair work.
Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi confirmed that the involvement of the European working group will help restore the Brody pumping station facilities in accordance with the highest EU safety standards. According to him, the joint work of Naftogaz and Ukrtransnafta specialists with international experts is also aimed at protecting the pipeline from future terrorist attacks. It is not yet known whether the mission will directly visit the damaged sections of the pipeline for security reasons.
The arrival of independent observers could ease political tensions with neighboring countries that are still critically dependent on russian oil. Hungary and Slovakia have previously accused Kyiv of a politically motivated halt to transit, but the involvement of EU experts should ensure transparency in the restoration process. The mission is part of a broader EU plan to stabilize the energy situation in the region and maintain technical control over critical infrastructure.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the European Union has offered to finance the repair of the Druzhba oil pipeline after the russian attacks, and the restoration of oil transit could take about a month and a half.
