Mysterious drones were spotted over the Fort McNair military base in Washington, home to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, prompting emergency meetings at the White House. The Washington Post reports.
Over the past ten days, several drones have been spotted over the facility at night. The origin of the devices has not yet been established, but the incident has prompted increased security measures and discussions about the possible evacuation of senior officials. Despite the seriousness of the situation, the Donald Trump administration has decided not to relocate the ministers yet, although information about their whereabouts at the base became public in the fall.
These events are unfolding against the backdrop of unprecedented tension in relations with Iran. After a series of joint strikes by the US and Israel on Iranian targets, the US military has gone into a state of heightened combat readiness. Washington fears that Tehran may attempt to launch retaliatory attacks directly on the territory of the United States.
In parallel with the incident, the US capital declared a global threat level for its diplomatic missions. The level of protection at domestic military bases has also been increased: the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst facilities in New Jersey and MacDill in Florida have been put on "Charlie" mode. This is the penultimate level of readiness, which is introduced in the event of intelligence about a possible attack. Only the "Delta" level, which is introduced directly during an attack, is higher than it.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Donald Trump Administration is considering the possibility of a large-scale deployment of US troops in the Middle East, which could be a radical step in the confrontation with Iran and significantly expand US military operations in the region.
