The aggressor country russia is stepping up its support for Iran, against which Israel and the United States launched a war in late February. Moscow is seeking to prolong the conflict, which brings it economic benefits due to rising oil prices.

The American edition of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this, citing its own sources on Tuesday, March 17.

The unnamed interlocutors of the publication said that russia provides Iran with information on the location of US troops in the Middle East. This cooperation deepened in the first days of the war, and now moscow provides satellite images directly to Tehran.

According to analysts, this assistance is similar to the intelligence information that the United States and its European allies have been providing to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion. They believe that moscow's assistance helped Tehran launch recent strikes on US Army radar systems in the region.

In addition, russia provides Iran with components of Shahed-type attack drones modified during the war against Ukraine. In 2022, Tehran supplied moscow with the first batches of these drones and their production technology, which allowed the russian army to terrorize Ukrainian cities in the following years.

The Iranian military also received recommendations on the tactics of using Shaheds. This includes how many drones should be used in operations and from what altitude they should strike.

WSJ writes that the war against Iran has played into russia's hands in some respects. The US has reduced the supply of anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, which Kyiv needs to repel missile attacks. In addition, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz caused a shock to the global oil market, and oil prices soared. Washington has eased sanctions, allowing countries to buy russian oil, more than 100 million barrels of which were at sea a month ago and could not find buyers.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 6, The Washington Post wrote, citing US officials, that russia has begun to pass information to Iran about the location of US troops in the Middle East.
