Mojtaba Khamenei escaped death in the February 28 attack on his residence because he went out into the garden a few minutes before the missiles hit, according to an audio recording of a speech by an official in his office.

A recording of a speech by the head of protocol for former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei's office, Mazaher Hosseini, to senior clerics and commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was published by the Telegraph.

According to Hosseini, Israeli Blue Sparrow ballistic missiles hit several objects within the residence simultaneously. One of the targets was the supreme leader's residence, at which three missiles were fired.

At the time of the attack, Ali Khamenei was meeting with representatives of the security bloc in one of the buildings of the complex. Some of the meeting participants were killed.

Also Mojtaba Khamenei's apartment on the top floor, the apartment below that belonged to his son-in-law Misbah al-Huda Bagheri Kani, and the house of his brother Mostafa and his wife were hit.

According to the recording, the missile penetrated the ceiling into Bagheri Kani's room and fatally injured him. Mostafa Khamenei and his wife were in a third house at the time of the strike, but they survived and were not injured.

Hosseini noted that Mojtaba Khamenei had gone out into the yard "to do something" before the attack and was returning to the building when it was hit. His wife Haddad died on the spot.

Mojtaba himself was wounded in the leg as a result of the strike. His father, wife, and son were killed, and the body of the head of the military bureau, Mohammad Shirazi, was so destroyed that only fragments remained for identification, according to the official.
