The Indonesian government is considering buying oil from aggressor country of russia due to the war against Iran, which has led to a reduction in supplies from the Persian Gulf countries. According to Reuters, this was reported by Indonesian media.

Indonesian Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said that Jakarta began considering this step after the rise in crude oil prices due to the situation in the Middle East. The decision of the US presidential administration to ease sanctions against russia, allowing third countries to buy russian oil, also played a role.

"Supplies are possible from any country. Now it is important for us to ensure supplies," Lahadalia said.

Indonesian media write that the country's leadership is also considering cooperation with Brunei on oil supplies.

According to data from the analytical company Kpler, in March, imports of crude oil from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia decreased to 23,000 barrels per day. In February, this figure was 104,000 barrels per day.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 16, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), Fatih Birol, stated that member countries are ready to release additional oil from their strategic reserves if the situation requires it.

As a reminder, on March 11, IEA member countries decided to release 400 million barrels of oil from their reserves in order to stabilize the market due to the situation in the Middle East.
