On the morning of March 16, russian troops launched an attack on Kyiv using drones. An air alert was declared in the capital at 08:28 am. The movement of a large group of UAVs was recorded, heading from the Chernihiv Region towards the Kyiv Region. The threat was reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Tymur Tkachenko.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration called on residents to stay in safe places:
"There are hostile UAVs near the capital. Stay in shelters until the end of the day," the message says.
Air defense forces conducted combat operations on targets in the Brovary and Vyshhorod districts, as well as directly over the districts of Kyiv. Drones were reported to be flying towards hydroelectric power plants, critical infrastructure and residential areas in Obolon, Troyeshchyna, Darnytsia and in the city centre.
Due to the nature of the flight – the drones were flying at high altitude – it was difficult to hear them until they peaked, which created additional danger.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on the night of March 14, the aggressor country of russia launched a massive combined air attack on Ukraine: the enemy used 498 air attack weapons: almost 70 missiles of various types and 430 drones. Air defence forces neutralized 460 targets, including 58 missiles and 402 drones of various types.
Zelenskyy also reported that this week the aggressor country of russia attacked Ukraine with 1,770 strike drones, over 1,530 surface-to-air missiles, and 86 missiles.
