A ballistic missile launched from Iranian territory was shot down in Turkish airspace. This is the third Iranian missile to be shot down in Turkish skies since the start of the war between Israel and the United States against Iran.
According to the Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Defense Ministry reported this on Friday, March 13.
The department stated that the ballistic missile launched from Iranian territory was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems deployed in the Mediterranean Sea.
"Regarding any threat directed against the territory and airspace of our country, all necessary measures are taken resolutely and without hesitation," the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The target of the Iranian missile was NATO's Incirlik air base, located in the Adana province in southern Turkey.
This is the third time that NATO forces have shot down Iranian missiles launched towards Turkey since the start of the Israeli-US war against Iran.
The first Iranian ballistic missile was shot down over Turkey on March 4. Its fragments fell in the southern province of Hatay. The second time an Iranian missile was shot down on March 9 in the sky over the province of Gaziantep.
As we will recall, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously stated that the Alliance does not intend to invoke Article 5 on mutual defense due to Iran's missile attacks on Turkey.
