Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko has ordered to form three new combat units in the National Guard. Klymenko announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"Today I signed an order on the formation of the National Guard of Ukraine as part of the corps:
regiments of unmanned systems;
assault regiments;
a separate regiment for air defense.
The main goal is to strengthen the capabilities of the units on the battlefield, scale up the use of modern technologies and increase the effectiveness of countering air threats," he said.
The Minister added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs will continue to scale up combat experience and technological solutions to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and increase the effectiveness of combat missions.
Klymenko noted that a significant part of the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system are directly performing combat missions at the front, the Ministry's leadership is constantly analyzing their use, the changing nature of combat operations and the experience of war to improve efficiency.
The Commander of the National Guard, Oleksandr Pivnenko, reported that 5 new regiments have been created in the National Guard.
Pivnenko noted that over the past year, the National Guard of Ukraine has transitioned to a corps system, and the 1st Corps of the NGU "Azov" and the 2nd Corps of the NGU "Khartiia" were formed within the NGU, which united brigades and auxiliary units under a single command.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in April 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the Contract 18-24 project to the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
