The European Union is guaranteed to fulfill its obligations and provide Ukraine with a EUR 90 billion loan, despite Hungary's blocking of the initiative.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced this on Monday, March 9, during a speech at a conference of EU ambassadors in Brussels, Hromadske reports.

"I can assure you that in this case we will fulfill our obligations. After all, our reputation and, more importantly, our security are at stake," she said.

The head of the European Commission emphasized that providing this financial assistance is an absolutely obvious step for the European community.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that Ukraine is today Europe's first line of defense and a future member of the Union, so its stable support remains a priority. According to her, the European nation continues to fight for common freedom, which makes assistance to Kyiv a matter of security for the entire continent. The EC President also assured that Europe will not stop supporting Ukraine, regardless of political obstacles within the bloc or the situation in other regions of the world.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the European Parliament approved a loan for Ukraine for EUR 90 billion, including EUR 60 billion for defense needs.
