Russians bringing migrants to Crimea and recruiting them into army - NRC

On the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula, the russian authorities are involving migrant workers from Central Asian countries in urban development and construction work. In addition, they are actively recruited into the invading army. This is stated in a report by the National Resistance Center (NRC).

According to NRC sources, a significant part of migrants work without proper documents. Often their passports and other documents are taken away by foremen or intermediaries, which makes people actually completely dependent on their employers.

In addition to exploitation at work, migrants are also subject to pressure from russian security forces. Government officials and military commissariats use the threat of deportation or problems with documents to force immigrants from Central Asia to sign contracts with the russian army.

"According to various estimates, tens of thousands of migrants from Central Asian countries may have already been recruited into the russian army, who are initially used as cheap labor in the occupied territories, and later as a reserve to replenish the troops," the NRC said.

Earlier, the NRC had already reported on a similar practice in the temporarily occupied territories, in particular in Mariupol.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, regular disruptions in mobile communications and the Internet are being recorded in the occupied Crimea.
