President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded Japanese journalist Takashi Hirano with a state award for covering russia's war against Ukraine and informing the Japanese audience about events in the country. It was reported by the publication NHK.One.
The award ceremony took place on March 4 in Kyiv. The President of Ukraine personally presented the award to Takashi Hirano, who is from the city of Yonago, Tottori Prefecture.
The President's Office noted that the journalist was awarded for his contribution to supporting Ukraine and informing the international community. Takashi Hirano himself said that he was eager to continue telling the Japanese audience about the events in Ukraine.
"I have been living in Ukraine for many years and I want to tell people in Japan about this country. In the future, I will continue to disseminate information and engage in dialogue to help save lives and promote relations between Japan and Ukraine," he said.
Who is Takashi Hirano?
Takashi Hirano has been working as the editor of the Japanese-language version of the Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform since 2018. Since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion, he has continued to cover the war and the lives of Ukrainians during the fighting, publishing materials in Japanese.
Hirano is also the author of the book "The Russian-Ukrainian War as Seen from Kyiv - Living with War."
As previously reported, earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded activist Serhii Sternenko, who had previously called Zelenskyy a "novice dictator, worse than Yanukovych."
