The aggressor country russia has begun active preparations for the so-called "elections" to the State Duma of the russian federation, scheduled for September 2026, in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. It was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
In particular, russian dictator vladimir putin instructed to "create conditions for the safe conduct of elections", emphasizing the "security of the will" in the temporarily occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Regions.
At the same time, the ruling United Russia party announced the creation of organizing committees for the primaries in the occupied territories. This is a mechanism for selecting candidates, including local collaborators, to form a "representative corps" and create a picture of the TOT's alleged full integration into russia.
"It is important to understand that any elections organized by the occupying power in the occupied territory are illegitimate under international law. Ukraine and the international community will not recognize their results, and the persons 'elected' in such 'elections' will not have legal status. The purpose of these steps is to legalize the occupation through the imitation of the electoral process," the Center emphasized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, occupants are preparing a new mechanism for conscription of men in the TOT.
