Our sources confirmed that during the attack on the port of Novorossiysk on the night of March 2, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU), together with the Defense Forces, struck the frigate Admiral Essen, a carrier of eight Kalibr cruise missiles. The strike hit the ship's middle superstructure.
This was reported to the Ukrainian News Agency by sources in the SSU.
As a result of the hits on the ship:
- Heat trap and radio signal scatterer grenade launchers exploded;
- The TK-25 electronic warfare complex, which detects radar radiation and creates interference, was damaged;
- The ZR-90 "Orekh" target illumination radars, which are part of the guidance system of the ship's anti-aircraft missile system, were hit;
- The main surveillance radar "Fregat-M2M", which is responsible for long-range detection of air and surface targets, was probably damaged.
According to sources, during the operation, the SSU broke through a dense and multi-level system of enemy air defense around Novorossiysk Bay and the port. The fire on the deck lasted for about 18 hours - this indicates serious internal destruction and complicated work of emergency teams.
The ship received critical damage, which significantly limits the possibility of using its Kalibr cruise missiles. Currently, the frigate cannot strike the territory of Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the SSU, together with other components of the Defense Forces, struck warships, air defense systems and oil infrastructure in the port of Novorossiysk.
