The National Antarctic Scientific Center has released a video of a baby penguin from Galindez Island, which has already become a favorite of subscribers.
The Center said that after a post about the birds' molting, a baby penguin with a characteristic "white cap" attracted special attention.
"In the post about the penguins' molting, everyone liked this baby penguin with a white cap (or crown) so much that we found a video with it for you," the scientists noted.
The baby bird decided to explore a puddle near the Vernadsky station on Galindez Island.
"The baby bird decided to explore the contents of a puddle on Galindez Island, where Vernadsky is located. So, like a real inquisitive child, it stood in it with its paws and looked for something with its beak," the report says.
The National Antarctic Scientific Center explained that many penguins have now grown up and left their nests. They form so-called "nurseries" - groups of baby birds supervised by several adults.
"Now many penguins of this season have already grown up and do not sit with their parents in nests, but gather in nurseries. These are such groups of baby birds supervised by several adults," the researchers reported.
In such groups, baby birds actively get acquainted with the environment, and after molting they begin to learn to swim.
"In these groups, baby birds actively study the world around them, and after molting, they learn to swim. Spa treatments are arranged either in a small lake near Vernadsky or in island backwaters," the Center noted.
At the same time, baby birds cannot yet feed themselves.
"But what they definitely do not do yet is eat independently. The baby birds are fed by their parents before they start swimming in the ocean," the scientists emphasized.
This season, about 7,000 penguins nested on Galindez Island, which raised almost 4,000 baby birds.
Let us remind you that near the Akademik Vernadsky station, penguins began the molting season.
