Potato prices in Ukraine rising due to increased demand

Last week, in Ukraine, the potato market witnessed an intensification of trade and purchasing activity, with prices rising due to increased demand for this product.

This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that farmers are allowed to increase their selling prices for potatoes due to increased demand for this product: potatoes are actively purchased by both wholesale companies and retail chains.

At the same time, the supply of quality products on the market is somewhat limited, as some farms refrain from sales, expecting further price increases.

Last week, Ukrainian producers offered potatoes for sale in the range of UAH 8-15 per kilogram, depending on the quality and batches offered for sale, which is on average 14% more expensive than a week earlier.

At the same time, some producers who are currently restraining potato sales expect a repeat of last year's scenario, when the price of this product reached UAH 30 per kilogram.

However, key market players believe that this situation is unlikely to repeat this season, since another price increase in the segment may stimulate an increase in supplies of imported potatoes.

At the same time, compared to the last season, potatoes in Ukraine are sold on average 55% cheaper than in the last days of February 2025.

It is noted that most farmers plan to continue raising prices, citing the rapid reduction in potato stocks in storage facilities.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, due to low demand last week, prices for greenhouse cucumbers began to decline on the Ukrainian market.
