Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that "Israel has launched a preemptive attack against Iran." He declared a special and immediate state of emergency throughout the country
"Israel has launched a preemptive attack against Iran in order to eliminate threats against the State of Israel," he said. "In this regard, an attack with missiles and UAVs against Israel and its civilian population is expected in the near future."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Israel Katz signed a special decree, according to which a special state of emergency in the rear is immediately introduced throughout the country.
The Israeli Home Front Command announces that starting from 8 a.m. on February 28, all areas of the country will be put under a "necessary activities only" regime. The updated guidelines include a ban on educational activities, a ban on mass gatherings, and a ban on the operation of most businesses and organizations, with the exception of vital services.
The Israeli military operation was initially called "Yehuda Shield". However, later it was announced that, by the decision of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the military operation was named differently: "Roaring Lion."
The Times of Israel, citing an unnamed American official, reports: "The US participated in this morning's strikes on Iran jointly with Israel." However, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for the actions of US troops in the region, has not yet provided official comment.
US President Donald Trump has issued an official statement confirming the launch of a large-scale military operation against Iran. This statement was published today, February 28, 2026, on his account on the Truth Social platform. Trump stated that the purpose of the operation is to "remove the existential threat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran."
"We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. We are going to annihilate their navy, we are going to ensure that the region’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region and the world," Trump said.
