Zelenskyy promotes National Guard Commander Pivnenko to major general

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has promoted brigadier general Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of the National Guard, to the rank of major general. This is stated in Decree 194 of February 25, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"To assign the military rank of major general to brigadier general Oleksandr Pivnenko, commander of the National Guard of Ukraine," the document says.

Pivnenko, 40, has been commanding the National Guard since July 2023, he is a Hero of Ukraine who distinguished himself in the battles for Bakhmut (Donetsk Region).

In 2022, Pivnenko became the commander of the 3rd Operational Brigade of the National Guard, the brigade took part in the defense of Kharkiv, in the winter of 2023, the brigade defended Bakhmut.

In the spring of 2023, Pivnenko headed the Eastern Territorial Directorate of the National Guard.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy also promoted colonel Pavlo Palisa, deputy head of the President's Office, the Head of the State Guard Administration, Colonel Oleksii Morozov and the commander of the 1st Corps of the National Guard "Azov" colonel Denys Prokopenko (Redis).
