US President Donald Trump, during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, expressed a desire to achieve peace as soon as possible and said he would like the war to end within a month.
According to Axios, a Ukrainian official and two sources with knowledge of the call are cited as saying this.
"Zelenskyy then said he hopes the war will finish this year, and Trump replied that the war has been going on for far too long and said he would like the war to end in a month," the article says.
According to the newspaper, the conversation lasted about half an hour and was the first after the two leaders met in person in Davos. Sources characterize it as positive and friendly.
"The call between Trump and Zelenskyy was very friendly and positive," Axios notes.
The publication also notes that the call took place the day after the fourth anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and on the eve of a meeting between Trump's envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, and Zelenskyy's negotiating team in Geneva.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 24, Bloomberg wrote, citing its own sources, that Trump wants to reach an agreement between Ukraine and russia before the US Independence Day, which is celebrated on July 4.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, commenting on the report, said that Trump's intention to end the war by July is new information for him.
