US expands sanctions against russia: individuals and companies linked to cyberattacks subject to restrictions

The United States has announced a new package of sanctions against russian citizens and related entities. Four individuals and three companies suspected of involvement in cybercrime have been added to the list of restrictions.

This was reported by the US Department of the Treasury.

The sanctions list includes russians Sergey Zelenyuk, Oleg Kucherov and Marina Vasanovich, as well as Uzbek citizen Azizzhon Mamashoyev.

According to the American side, Zelenyuk is suspected of purchasing and reselling at least eight cyber tools that belonged to the US government and were stolen from an American company. These tools were later sold without appropriate permission.

The companies Advance Security Solutions and Special Technology Services LLC FZ (registered in the UAE), as well as the russian MATRIX LLC, have also been subject to restrictions.

The US Department of the Treasury notes that the individuals involved are involved in the circulation of so-called zero-day exploits - unknown vulnerabilities in software that can be used for cyberattacks, data theft and the creation of ransomware.

The sanctions were imposed in accordance with the CAATSA law, which provides for restrictive measures for violations of intellectual property and activities related to cyber threats.

As a reminder, on February 24, Bloomberg reported that US President Donald Trump wants to achieve a peace agreement between the aggressor country of russia and Ukraine by July 4, when the 250th anniversary of American Independence will be celebrated.
