Law enforcement officers have exposed a large-scale criminal organization whose members are involved in a series of serious crimes in Ukraine - from car arsons and destruction of property to intimidation and kidnapping. Deputy Head of the National Police Andrii Nebytov has announced this.

"Car arsons, destruction of property, intimidation and kidnapping, pressure with firearms (even grenade launchers), extortion and robbery - in each case, different handwriting, different performers, but the same organizers. Encrypted puppeteers who have already been "decrypted," the statement said.

It is noted that at the top of the hierarchy were former wardens of the Kyiv pre-trial detention center, who, after their release, continued to spread their influence on criminals and created a stable group. It was armed, secretive and well versed in police methods.

"These 'authorities' of the criminal world ruled from the shadows and directly influenced the security of the state. Their main activities were organizing crimes to order, extorting non-existent debts, putting pressure on businesses and individual entrepreneurs, including through orders from other criminal organizations. They provided a full package of services: developing a plan, selecting performers, providing weapons, controlling the execution, and paying through hidden channels," Nebytov said.

One of the most resonant episodes was the kidnapping of a Chinese citizen. The attackers lured the man to Ukraine under the guise of investing in business, took him to a quiet place and beat him for three days until they gained access to his bank accounts and seized the money.

Police simultaneously detained one of the organizers and 11 active members of the criminal organization. Another organizer, who is abroad, was served a notice of suspicion in absentia and will be put on the international wanted list.

Police investigators notified the defendants of suspicion under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: creation and participation in a criminal organization (Art. 255), dissemination of criminal influence (Art. 255-1), robbery (Art. 187), theft (Art. 186), extortion (Art. 189), illegal seizure of a vehicle (Art. 289), illegal handling of weapons (Art. 263), illegal imprisonment or abduction of a person (Art. 146) and involvement of minors in criminal activity (Art. 304). The sanctions of the articles provide for up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The court imposed on one of them a measure of restraint in the form of round-the-clock house arrest, on all the others - detention without bail.

Recall that two men who killed a man for fun will be tried in Kyiv.
