Iran has informed the United States of its readiness to make additional concessions on its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief and official recognition of its right to enrich uranium. Reuters reports this with reference to sources.
After two rounds of talks between Tehran and Washington, the parties still have significant disagreements, in particular over the scope and procedure for lifting US sanctions. At the same time, the agency notes that for the first time since the recent difficult negotiations, Iran has proposed new options for compromise, despite the fact that the positions of the parties seemed almost incompatible.
According to the source, Tehran is considering transferring half of its most enriched uranium reserves abroad and diluting the rest. In addition, the country may join the creation of a regional uranium enrichment consortium, which has previously been discussed within the framework of diplomatic initiatives.
At the same time, Iran insists that such steps are possible only if its right to "peaceful nuclear enrichment" is recognized and economic restrictions are fully or gradually lifted.
Tehran has also offered American companies to participate in major oil and gas projects in the country. According to an Iranian official, as part of a possible economic package, the United States could gain access to significant investment opportunities in Iran's energy sector
