The United States continues to deploy aircraft to the Middle East, forming the largest grouping since the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. This is discussed in the material of The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The publication writes that US aircraft, including fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II and F-22 Raptor fighters, continue to be stationed at US bases in the region. In addition, refueling and control aircraft (AWACS) are being deployed.

Washington is also strengthening its naval component in the Middle East. Currently, an aircraft carrier group led by the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln is present in the Middle East. In the coming days, the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford with escort ships will arrive in the region in the coming days. Earlier, US President Donald Trump instructed the military to send another aircraft carrier group to the Middle East.

The US military is also strengthening the air defense of its bases in the Middle East. In recent weeks, MIM-104 Patriot and THAAD air defense systems have been deployed to the region.

WSJ writes that Trump is now considering several options provided by the military - from targeted strikes on Iran's nuclear program facilities to a prolonged air war.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 28, US President Trump called on Iran's leadership to conclude a nuclear deal, as the US Navy is "approaching the Middle East."

Earlier, Reuters wrote that while the United States and Iran are engaged in fruitless negotiations, Tehran is actively strengthening the facilities of its nuclear program amid possible US strikes.
