On Thursday, February 19, the regional center of Chernihiv and the city of Slavutych were left without electricity. Chernihivoblenergo JSC reported about the large-scale outage in a statement.
According to the power company, the blackout was caused by a technical malfunction at a power facility.
"As a result of an accident on one of the 110 kV overhead lines, consumers in Chernihiv, Slavutych and a number of settlements in the Chernihiv District were cut off," the company officially stated.
Both cities are completely de-energized, and the power supply has also been cut off in the neighboring villages of the district. Repair crews have already arrived at the accident site and are working to repair the damage.
There are no exact forecasts on when the power will be restored to the homes, as experts are still assessing the scope of work required. Residents are asked to remain calm and, if possible, unplug energy-intensive appliances to avoid power surges during reconnection.
