A delegation of US senators visited Odesa on February 18, the first time since russia's full-scale invasion. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States Olga Stefanishyna reported this on her Facebook page on Thursday, February 19.

Senators Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire), Sheldon Whitehouse (Rhode Island), Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut) and Chris Coons (Delaware) came to Odesa. They learned about the situation in the region, russian strikes on critical infrastructure and buildings, and russian attacks on American businesses. The senators also met with representatives of American agricultural and logistics companies.

"A key element of the program was a visit to the port and communication with those who defend Odesa and the Black Sea ports on a daily basis. There was also a meeting with local religious and civic leaders, as well as the regional leadership. The senators saw Odesa holding the line. They saw unbreakable people who live and work despite constant attacks, lack of heat and electricity," Stefanishyna said.

According to Jeanne Shaheen, her bills on sanctions against the "shadow fleet" and "Stop russia and China" are ready for consideration as soon as the Senate returns to work next week. In addition, the bill on sanctions against russia, co-authored by Richard Blumenthal, is to be voted on.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 6, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that further US sanctions against russia depend on peace talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
