Ukraine has approved an update to security measures in schools during martial law: from now on, students in grades 5-11, school employees, and visitors will be checked with metal detectors.
This was announced by Suspilne with reference to the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Thus, according to the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs "On Some Issues of Implementing Security Measures in a General Secondary Education Institution", students in grades 5-11, school employees, and all visitors will be required to undergo a mandatory check with metal detectors.
The number of metal detectors in a school must correspond to the number of its functional entrances.
It is planned to use stationary and hand-held metal detectors.
Stationary metal detectors are arched structures for the passage of persons with the simultaneous detection of possible concealment of dangerous objects; they are installed at the entrances to the premises of the educational institution.
Hand-held metal detectors are designed to detect metal objects hidden under clothing, in clothing, on the body or in a briefcase (backpack, suitcase, shopping bag, package, etc.).
The order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs also provides for the following security measures in schools:
Physical security. Each educational institution must be provided with professional security - this can be security police or a licensed security company.
Video surveillance. Cameras must operate constantly, and recordings must be stored for at least 30 days.
Security measures cannot be financed at the expense of students' families. Schools are also required to install an emergency police call system - a stationary "panic button" or a mobile analogue.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Ukrainian schools are increasingly discussing the possibility of introducing strict restrictions on mobile phones during classes.
