France to provide Ukraine with the latest SAR radars for drones: reconnaissance in any weather

The Ukrainian Defense Forces will receive modern reconnaissance SAR radars from the French company Harmattan AI, which will allow drones to work effectively regardless of weather conditions and time of day. This was stated by the company's CEO in an interview with Le Grand Continent.

According to him, the technology should eliminate one of the key problems of aerial reconnaissance - dependence on visibility. "SAR radar is an active remote sensing system that uses microwave radiation to create high-precision images of the surface," the company's head explained. He emphasized that the system is capable of operating "during rain, fog, dense cloud cover, as well as at night."

The company emphasizes that cooperation with Ukraine is not only commercial, but also strategic. The head of Harmattan AI noted that European manufacturers can adopt the significant experience of Ukrainian enterprises, which have been adapting their technologies to real battlefield conditions since 2014. The partners pay particular attention to the operation of systems in electronic warfare conditions, when radio communication or GPS navigation may be unavailable.

It is known that in October 2025 a strategic partnership was concluded between Harmattan AI and the Ukrainian aviation holding Skyeton. As part of this cooperation, French sensor technologies are planned to be integrated into the Raybird unmanned complex, which may become one of the first carriers of the latest radars.

It is expected that the introduction of SAR systems will significantly expand the capabilities of Ukrainian drones at the front, ensuring stable reconnaissance even in difficult weather conditions and with active enemy resistance.

As a reminder, the United Kingdom is developing a new hypersonic missile system Nightfall, which is planned to be transferred to Ukraine.
