The largest advance in two and half years: Ukraine liberated over 200 sq. km - AFP

The Ukrainian military last week achieved the most significant breakthrough on the front in the past 2.5 years, liberating over 200 sq. km of territory. This is reported by Agence France-Presse with reference to analytical data.

According to journalists, this is the period from February 11 to 15, when the Defense Forces regained control of 201 sq. km. Such conclusions are based on estimates by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that Ukrainian units could have taken advantage of disruptions in communications with russian troops. In particular, this concerns the blocking of access to the Starlink system, which, according to russian military bloggers, created problems with coordination and control of units on the battlefield.

AFP emphasizes that the area of the liberated territory is almost equal to all russian territorial gains in December. This is the largest amount of land regained in such a short period of time since the start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive in June 2023.

ISW noted that Ukraine's counterattacks were likely aimed at exploiting temporary communication difficulties in the russian troops, which could have affected their combat capability and speed of response.

As a reminder, European Commission President Von der Leyen spoke about what Europe should learn from Ukraine.
