The magical properties of cats

Since ancient times, cats have been considered a kind of bridge between the human world and the extrasensory universe. In many cultures, it is believed that they possess magical powers. Thanks to their whiskers, they sense the environment. Their whiskers also warn of changes in air movement, the presence and size of obstacles, changes in magnetic fields and atmospheric pressure. As is known, cats can predict events that our senses will detect only later, for example, earthquakes and storms.
Ancient beliefs
The greatest civilizations in history - from ancient China and Greece to Egypt and Rome - revered and worshipped cats. They were even mummified before being buried with their deceased owners so that they could travel together to the afterlife. In ancient Egypt, the cat goddess Bastet was the daughter of the sun god Ra. So, anyone who harmed a cat could be sentenced to death.

Italian roots and celebrations
February 17 is ruled by Aquarius, a sign that in Italian cultural tradition is a symbol of freethinking and independence. That is why Europe dedicated this day to cats. Italy is one of the main countries with the largest number of homeless cats (over 2.5 million), so it is not surprising that this holiday appeared here.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 3, 2025, former MP and current military serviceman Oleh Liashko published a photo in which he is sitting at a table in military uniform and working with documents. A black cat lies nearby, carefully watching the hands of the former MP.
