Psychiatrist, human rights activist and Soviet dissident Semen Hluzman has died at the age of 79 in Kyiv's Oleksandrivska Hospital.

The news was reported by his friend Lesia Kharchenko and MP Mykola Kniazhytskyi.

Semen Hluzman was taken to the hospital by ambulance, and about half an hour later the family was informed of his death.

"He had a heavy and strident personality and a light and clear conscience. Semen Hluzman has passed away. [...] People of conscience pass away. Eternal memory..." wrote Kniazhytskyi.

He recalled that in Soviet times, Hluzman spoke about General Hryhorenko's mental health and opposed the use of repressive psychiatry. According to the deputy, Hluzman himself was imprisoned and served his sentence together with Myroslav Marynovych and other prisoners of conscience.

Semen Hluzman was convicted in the USSR in the 1970s. He was 25 years old at the time of his imprisonment.
