Ukrainians who are in Ireland under temporary protection do not have to worry about their legal status. The country's authorities have automatically extended the validity of immigration permits for another year - until March 4, 2027.

The relevant decision has been published on the official portal of the Irish Immigration Service.

What it means?

Immigration documents that were valid until March 4, 2026 are automatically renewed. Ukrainians do not need to submit new applications or undergo repeated procedures - the extension takes place without additional formalities.

The decision was made on the basis of the position of the Department of Justice of Ireland and applies to all persons staying in the country under the Temporary Protection Directive.

This includes not only Ukrainian citizens, but also stateless persons and third-country nationals who left Ukraine because of the war.

What rights remain in force?

Persons with temporary protection status retain:

  • the right to legal residence;
  • the ability to work without a separate permit;
  • access to medicine, education and social services;
  • the right to travel to European countries for up to 90 days within the countries that recognize this regime.

Ireland's decision is in line with the position of the Council of the European Union, which earlier extended the temporary protection mechanism for EU countries until March 2027.

At the same time, possible scenarios for the legal status of Ukrainians after the end of this period are already being discussed at the European Union level.
