Kyiv on brink of humanitarian catastrophe due to continuous shelling - Klitschko

Over the past two months, intensive russian attacks on critical infrastructure have put the Ukrainian capital in an extremely difficult situation, continuous air strikes "brought Kyiv to the brink of disaster." This was stated in a comment to the Financial Times by the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko.

According to the mayor, the situation remains critical not only for the capital, but also for the entire state.

"Now the question of the future of our country - whether we will survive as an independent country or not - is still open," - Klitschko emphasized.

It is noted that currently 3.5 million residents of the capital are experiencing the harshest winter since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The situation is significantly complicated by abnormal frosts of minus 20 degrees and massive shelling, during which russia simultaneously launches hundreds of missiles and drones. The main attacks of the enemy were directed at three large power plants that provide central heating for Kyiv, as well as at key energy facilities across the country. This caused large-scale power, heating, and water outages in conditions where the city is covered in a thick layer of ice and snow.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the UN has called on russia to immediately stop attacks on Ukraine's energy sector.

The Kyiv City State Administration has published a list of buildings in which heating will not be restored until at least April.
