US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has canceled at the last minute a key meeting on Ukraine that was to take place on the sidelines of the Munich conference with European leaders and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The reason was a tight schedule, the Financial Times reports.
European officials took the move as a signal that Washington is losing interest in close coordination with its allies to end the war.
One EU official called the decision "crazy." Another said that without US participation, the meeting was meaningless.
A US official told Suspilne in a commentary that despite his absence from the Berlin meeting, Secretary of State Rubio would "actively participate in other meetings on Russia's war against Ukraine on the sidelines of the conference."
The official also said that the secretary of state will meet with Zelenskyy on February 14 in the evening on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
At the same time, Newsmax journalist Carla Babb, citing Ukrainian officials, reported on X that Marco Rubio will meet with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday at 5 p.m. local time (6 p.m. Kyiv time).
