Zelenskyy awards skeleton racer Heraskevych with Order of Freedom

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree awarding Vladyslav Heraskevych, a member of the Ukrainian national Olympic team and skeleton racer, with the Order of Freedom. The relevant document was published on the President's website on Thursday, February 12.

"For selfless service to the Ukrainian people, civic courage and patriotism in upholding the ideals of freedom and democratic values, I hereby decree:

To award the Order of Freedom to HERASKEVYCH Vladyslav Mykhailovych, a member of the Ukrainian national Olympic team, skeleton racer," reads Decree 119.

On February 9, at the Olympics, Ukrainian skeletonist Vladyslav Heraskevych was made remarks through his helmet with portraits of the killed Ukrainian athletes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 11, Heraskevych was allowed to use a black armband or ribbon without personalization instead of a "helmet of memory" depicting Ukrainian athletes killed by russian aggression.

On February 12, Heraskevych was disqualified before his first race at the 2026 Olympic Games.

On February 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the International Olympic Committee's decision to disqualify Heraskevych does not comply with the principles of Olympism, which are based on justice and peace.
