Ukrzaliznytsia sends piggyback train on Lviv - Fényeslitke route for the first time

The Ukrzaliznytsia joint-stock company sent a piggyback train on the Lviv - Fényeslitke (Hungary) route for the first time.

Ukrzaliznytsia announced this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that the transportation was organized using two types of tracks - 1520 mm and 1435 mm.

Thanks to the use of special technologies and modernized platforms, semi-trailers were loaded without tractors and the use of cranes.

Such a new logistics solution opens up opportunities for attracting new customers, which is especially important in conditions of a decline in freight transportation and revenues from them.

The project was implemented by Ukrzaliznytsia's subsidiary in Poland - UZ Cargo Poland, the branch of the "Lisky Transport Service Center" of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia and a private Hungarian logistics terminal.

It is noted that this flight confirms the efficiency and versatility of piggyback transportation of semi-trailers of any type in the connection between Ukraine and the countries of the European Union using 1520 and 1435 mm tracks.

A piggyback train is a specialized railway train designed to transport semi-trailers, trailers or entire trucks on special low-frame platforms.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, at the end of 2025, Ukrzaliznytsia announced that it plans to test the technology of automatic change of track width for freight cars.

At the first stage, research will be conducted with two cars, and at the second stage, a train will be formed.
