The net purchase of currency by the population in January of this year was the largest since February of last year and amounted to USD 821 million in equivalent.
This is evidenced by data from the National Bank of Ukraine, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The purchase of non-cash currency in January amounted to USD 376 million, and the sale - USD 344 million.
The volumes of purchase and sale of cash currency in January decreased and amounted to USD 1.927 billion and USD 1.139 billion, respectively.
Thus, the net purchase of cash currency by the population last month amounted to USD 788 million (USD 1.927 billion of cash currency was purchased and USD 1.139 billion of cash was sold).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in November, banks increased gold imports by 1% to USD 3.9 million equivalent and reduced euro imports by 40% to USD 333 million equivalent. In the reporting month, gold imports amounted to USD 3,938,000 equivalent, while in October this figure was USD 3,908,000, and in September – a record USD 9,370,000 equivalent.
