Ukrainian special services not involved in assassination attempt on GRU general in Moscow - Western media different version

The assassination attempt on russian general Vladimir Alekseev, which occurred on February 6, 2026 in Moscow, is not related to Ukraine, Western special services claim.

As The Washington Post reports, citing anonymous sources in Western special services, although the Kremlin accuses Kyiv of involvement in the incident, no confirmation or evidence has been provided.

The Ukrainian side has also rejected these accusations, which contradicts its previous hints of successful operations.

Analyzing the circumstances of the attack, experts note that the moment for such an attack was extremely inappropriate, since at the same time lengthy negotiations were taking place in Abu Dhabi with the participation of the United States, russia and Ukraine.

According to Western analysts, the attack may indicate internal showdowns in the russian security forces, in particular, related to the past activities of Alekseev, who was involved in suppressing the Wagner PMC rebellion.

Thus, the assassination attempt may be the result of conflicts within russia, and not the efforts of foreign agents. It should also be noted that Vladimir Alekseev, despite his Ukrainian origin, rose to high positions in russian intelligence.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 6, Lieutenant General of the russian ministry of defense Vladimir Alekseev was shot in the Russian capital, but the Russian serviceman survived.
