The governor of the Belgorod Oblast Vyacheslav Gladkov, the local water utility, russian Telegram channels, as well as Rosseti and Belgorodenergo reported on the situation.
According to local residents on social media, a series of explosions occurred in the city around 11 p.m. The SHOT Telegram channel, which is affiliated with russian security forces, claims that Belgorod was allegedly hit by a HIMARS missile strike.
In addition, information is spreading on social networks that the Belgorod CHP plant and the Frunzenskaya power substation near the village of Streletskoye could have been hit.
The head of the region Vyacheslav Gladkov said that there was significant damage to energy facilities in several districts of the region.
"We have a large amount of damage to the energy infrastructure of the city of Belgorod, the Belgorod, Rakitnoye, Borisovka, Grayvoron, Yakovlevsky Districts," said the governor.
Water supply was cut off in Belgorod and the Borisovka District due to the de-energization of the water utility's facilities. Many residential buildings also lost heating.
Belgorodenergo and Rosseti reported numerous damages to electrical equipment and warned that the time for restoration work has been extended.
