NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited the Chernihiv Region during his visit to Ukraine together with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and the head of the Regional Military Administration Viacheslav Chaus. He reports about it on his X.

During the trip, Rutte visited the village of Yahidne, where he inspected the basement of a local school. It was there that in the spring of 2022, the Russian occupiers forcibly detained hundreds of civilians for 17 days. Due to the terrible conditions, 10 hostages died. The village was liberated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in early April of the same year.

The NATO Secretary General also got acquainted with the work of the Invincibility Points, which provide heat and communication to the residents of the region during power outages.

"I saw how the Armed Forces of Ukraine counter Russian drones. And I met with university students who are determined to contribute to a peaceful, prosperous future," he said.
