Ukraine's power grid is under considerable pressure, which is why consumption restriction schedules may become stricter in the near future. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced this following a meeting of the emergency response headquarters.
According to the head of government, the key factors are the shortage of generation after the latest shelling and intelligence data on the enemy's intentions to attack infrastructure facilities again within a week.
"At the same time, the Russians are preparing for new attacks on the energy sector in the coming week. We are intensifying our work with all partners to obtain energy equipment. More than 30 countries are already providing support to help Ukraine get through this winter," the Prime Minister said.
Large-scale repairs are currently underway in all regions. Particular attention is paid to Kyiv, where hundreds of power engineers and Naftogaz specialists work. A separate government decision has established a special power supply regime for buildings without centralized heating: they should receive light for most of the day.
"The houses where it is impossible to restore heat supply in the near future should have electricity for at least 18 hours a day," said Denys Shmyhal.
The most critical situation is currently observed in the capital region, as well as in the Kharkiv, Sumy and Poltava Regions. The Cabinet of Ministers continues to cooperate with more than 30 partner countries to urgently deliver equipment that will help stabilize the system by the end of winter.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine expects the US reaction to the massive shelling of energy facilities by russia.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said that last night the army of the aggressor country targeted energy infrastructure, taking advantage of the onset of severe cold in Ukraine.
